Student Employment Information

While student employees at the Ole Miss Student Union help to provide upkeep to the building and campus, the Ole Miss Student Union offers opportunities for students to gain valuable life skills as well as both leadership and career development while working in a fast-paced, robust environment. The Ole Miss Student Union is truly a building for all students, and the university depends on its students to provide services at the higher standard with an emphasis on dedication, enthusiasm, and energy.

Upon hire, student employees will participate in mandatory trainings prior to working a shift. Applicants must notify the department of conflicts with potential training dates prior to accepting an offer for employment.

The application is currently closed. We will begin hiring in the fall as needed.

Student Staff Hours of Employment

Shift hours may vary depending on time of year (Approximately 10-20 hours per week). Shifts are usually 3-4 hours in length. The same weekly schedule is used for the entire academic semester resetting for a new semester and/or holiday breaks.

Our hours are: Monday – Thursday 7:30a-10:00p, Friday 7:30a-9:00p, and Saturday-Sunday 10a-9p.

Student Staff Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as an active student at Ole Miss during period of employment and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.0.
  • Experience in an office setting, service industry, or with manual labor is beneficiary.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are required.
  • Must be reliable, friendly, responsible, and willing to work well in a team setting.

Student Staff Compensation

Compensation depends on experience with increases scheduled on an annual basis depending on budget and employee job performance.

Job Descriptions and Availability for Student Staff Positions

Reservations Assistant 

  • Work with Administrative Coordinator to schedule meetings, events, and table reservations on campus
  • Coordinates with the Facilities Graduate Assistant to design room layouts for events
  • Performs basic clerical duties within the office
  • Assists with event planning meetings and workshop presentations for student clubs and organizations
  • Provides on-site assistance at events (greets guests, directs guests to event locations, adjusts room setups as needed)
  • Attends mandatory training sessions
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Building Attendant

  • Sets up and maintains spaces in the Student Union reserved by campus departments and student organizations
  • Set up Audio/Visual equipment and provides troubleshooting of that equipment
  • Provides on-site support and assistance before, during, and after events
  • Provides basic maintenance and light custodial duties at the Ole Miss Student Union
  • Maintains safety and security of the Union during operating hours
  • Attends mandatory training sessions
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Reception Desk Assistant

  • Staffs the Student Union reception desk in the departmental office on the 3rd floor of the Union
  • Answers incoming departmental calls, transfers calls to appropriate staff member, and helps callers find resources online
  • Helps visitors and guests in-person with any questions they may have about the department, our services, and the Union building itself
  • Performs basic clerical duties within the office
  • Provides on-site assistance at events (greets guests, directs guests to event locations, adjusts room setups as needed)
  • Attends mandatory training sessions
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
